It’s all in the art. You get no credit for living.
Explore your life story with an emphasis on language and the art of story-telling. You do not have to have suffered abuse, had a terrible childhood or a life-threatening illness to write a great memoir! No one has lived the life you have. You will write moments from your life in ways that clarify your present as well as your past, and may give some insight into your path for the future. A variety of exercises will encourage you to reach down into the events of your life and find the deeper layers of wisdom and healing that may lie within them.
You Will Learn To:
- Write your story in vivid language.
- Show rather than tell, by using concrete detail rather than information
- Uncover the inner meaning of significant events
- Experience the release and the tenderness of sharing your story with others
Who Will Benefit from this Class:
Both writers and non-writers who wish to explore the deeper layers of their life journey.
How the Class Works:
My online courses are a group endeavor that take place in a private Google Group room, so unless you choose otherwise, your responses to the assignments will be read and commented on by the others in the group. Group size is normally between 6 and 12. The exchanges between participants make for an intimate and very rich holding environment. Every Monday morning you will receive an email with the week’s assignment, and you will post your written response on the Google Group room, where every other participant will be able to see it and comment on it if they wish. Roger will comment on everyone’s work each week. You will benefit not only from your work, but through the work of all students, as you will see all of the assignments and Roger’s feedback to everyone (if you would rather submit your assignments to Roger privately, that is ok too). Roger also encourages you to communicate with each other during the class, providing input and support as you see fit.
Roger will hold a teleconference during the session: an opportunity for you to ask questions and for us to talk together about the work we are doing. These usually last for up to an hour.
NOTE: For the Google Group room, we will use the email address connected to your PayPal account. If you would like to use a different email address, after you have signed up for the course, please email my assistant Robert Carlson with the name of the course you have signed up for and the email address you would like to use. He may be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
